'ONCE ON THIS ISLAND'

FRANKLINVILLE — The Broadway Bound Players will present "Once
On This Island" at 7:30 p.m. today through Saturday in the
auditorium at Delsea Regional High School, Fries Mill Road,
Franklinville.
"Once On This Island" is a highly original and theatrical
Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale "The Little
Mermaid." In almost non-stop contemporary and Caribbean-flavored
song and dance, the "Storytellers" played by Hadejia Ross,
Amanda Decker, Natalie Persia all of Franklin, and Lauren
Fredericks of Clayton tell the story of Ti Moune played by Megan
Farley of Franklinville, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in
love with Daniel, portrayed by Michael Fredericks of Clayton, a
wealthy boy from the other side of her island. As a child,
Little Ti Moune, played by Caleigh Hughes of Pitman, was saved
by the gods from a flood. She has been raised by her parents
Mama Euralie and Tonton Julian, portrayed by Jill Harrison of
Millville and Kyle Glenn of Franklinville. Laura Carione of
Franklinville has been cast as Asaka, the god of Earth. Agwe,
the god of water is played by Elisa Grello of Elk Township.
Jacqueline White of Elk is Erzulie, the god of Love, and Anna
Butterick of Elk Township is Mama Ge, the god of Death. These
fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest
to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of
prejudice, hatred and death. Rounding out the cast are Alyssa
Cooper of Franklinville as Andrea, Steven Clair of Newfield as
Armand, and the peasants: Jessica Andrews, Aaron Daubenspeck,
Amanda Kelleher, Jessica Kelleher, Shannon Price, Kelsey Romeo
and Kate Tobin, all of Franklinville, along with Erin Cramer and
Tina White of Elk Township.
The show is directed by Caitlin Hughes, a student of theatre
education at Rowan University. Musical and vocal direction is
being handled by Frank Butterick.
This year's choreographers are Danielle Scarpa and Jeff
Flood. All are alumni of Delsea Regional High School and
Broadway Bound Players.
